Rooftop Agriculture Research
BrightFarm Systems worked in collaboration with a team from the New York office of global engineering firm Arup, to develop a sustainable greenhouse research facility. The facility is due to be built on the roof of Arup New York’s office, once final project funding is in place.
The rooftop greenhouse facility was conceived to continue the R&D work started on the Science Barge. This research facility is designed to further develop BrightFarm Systems and Arup’s understanding of design constraints in the incorporation of hydroponic greenhouses on urban rooftops.
The facility will make use of a range of new technologies, from glazing materials to renewable energy systems, in order to test their suitability for rooftop agriculture applications.
