The Habor School, USA

The New York Harbor School provides a college-preparatory education built upon New York City’s maritime experience.

The Harbor School was selected to be the first tenant of the newly developed Governors Island, a former US Coast Guard base located in the middle of New York harbor. The school’s new facilities on Governors Island will place students in the center of the maritime economy and aquatic environment in New York.

BrightFarm Systems was commissioned to design and model a sustainability laboratory for the Martine Science & Technology Center at the new Harbor School Campus. The greenhouse laboratory features an algae culture system using passive light to provide feedstock for native oyster cultivation and restoration. The greenhouse also includes a local food production system for the school as well as renewable energy systems incorporating educational features.
